Welcome to Devon, Alberta – where outdoor opportunities abound!
Devon Community Information
Devon, Alberta is located 26 kilometres southwest of Edmonton along the banks of the North Saskatchewan river. It is this river proximity that gives Devon much of it’s charm and attraction for people looking for a place to live. The hiking and biking opportunities afforded by the very scenic riverside location make this a go-to destination for outdoor fun seekers of all ages.
Devon was created as a place for workers on the Imperial Leduc No. 1 oil well after it struck big in 1947. The town owes it’s very name to this oil discovery as it was the Devonian formation where the oil was located.
Population wise Devon has also grown quickly in the booming Alberta economy. The Alberta Municipal Affairs official population list shows Devon being 6,510 residents strong as of 2011. It’s safe to say that number has gone up in recent years due to both the attraction of the outdoor lifestyle and the even bigger attraction of the nearby employment opportunities in both the Nisku Industrial Park and the Edmonton International Airport just a few kilometres away down Hwy. 19 as well as the rapidly developing West Edmonton economic base north of town on Hwy. 60.
If you like access to high paying jobs and beautiful outdoor scenery and recreation – put Devon on your short list.
